Capturing Critters in Lembeh Workshop 2013: Day 3 & 4

Lembeh is a surprise. For any photographer, hobbyist or pro, finding a place to be productive, to get into a shooting groove, to see a lot of critters is the goal.  Honestly, I’m more of a wide-angle underwater photographer than a macro guy, and when I was asked to be a part of this year’s Capturing Critters in Lembeh Workshop, I was happy and thrilled to take part, but didn’t expect much from the diving.  It’s just the way I am.  I like big animals and wide stuff.  But I must say, Lembeh has got some of the coolest, weirdest, and funkiest ocean animals I’ve ever seen in one place.  Every dive is prolific.  I find myself bouncing from one great subject to another, and I always end my dives disappointed I can’t stay down for more.  Every dive provides a cadence of productivity I seldom experience when travelling and taking photos.  The Lembeh Strait does not disappoint.

The first week of the Capturing Critters in Lembeh Workshop is now at its end and all the participants are getting great shots with every dive and they do not seem to be slowing down.  This environment is ideal for working with photographers, because I get to see everyone’s technique and quality of work evolve from day to day, precisely because there is so much cool stuff to shoot.
