Capturing Critters in Lembeh Workshop 2014 – Mid Week Update

Diving at Lembeh Resort is an exercise in experiencing the unexpected. Nowhere else on the planet is the macro photo potential so… juicy.  From a featureless black sand prairie emerge the craziest critters, thanks to the keen eyes of the Critters@Lembeh dive guides at Lembeh Resort. We’re just midway through the Capturing Critters in Lembeh workshop, and we’ve seen mating blue ring octopuses, hairy octopuses, pygmy seahorses galore, color after color of frogfish and nudis, and the list goes on. I can’t imagine what’s left to see, but I know we have plenty of fantastic surprises left ahead.

Topside, the educational experience is equally as rich. Having Keri Wilk from ReefNet as a resource for creative shooting techniques is as good as it gets. I’ve been inspired to take some new approaches to my own macro shooting, and I love the results! Sascha Janson’s video seminars are not just for video shooters – the lighting techniques he teaches are invaluable for photographers of every stripe, and Dimpy Jacob’s critter-centric presentations about Lembeh and it’s underwater denizens have been fascinating. The tips and tricks from my classes in Lightroom and Photoshop are being put to good use, and I see huge improvements in everyone’s organizational and editing skills already.  I can’t wait to see what else in in store during the next half of Capturing Critters!

Here are a few examples of Before and After images from the group.
