Only in Lembeh!
This week Keri Wilk from Canada visited us (ReefNet Inc.). He gave us the short write up & a couple of images to post:
In most parts of the world, it’s pretty safe to say that underwater photographers would classify a dive containing either a frogfish or a bluering octopus as a great success… so, naturally, when our dive guide (Jhoe) found this blue ring octopus ON TOP of a frogfish it blew my mind.
This wasn’t my first time to Lembeh, but it was definitely the most memorable. As if the “frog-topus” sighting wasn’t enough, we also came across a blue ring octopus with a full clutch of eggs – trying to mate with another blue ring!
Upon arrival, I was asked to write out a wishlist of animals to see during my stay. The dive center insited that I write everything and anything that came to mind, so I didn’t hold back. The list grew longer and longer: Ornate ghost pipefish, robust ghost pipefish, hairy/painted/scarlet/baby frogfishes, green hairy shrimp, mimic octopus, wunderpus, tiger shrimp, harlequin shrimp, flamboyant cuttlefish eggs, bargibanti and pontohi pygmy seahorses, Lembeh sea dragon, mating mandarinfish… by the time I was finished writing, I thought that my list was overly ambitious. But, after the first day almost all of the subjects were checked off the list, and by the end of the trip the list was healthily expanded.
