The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – Part II
During the 2005 Asian Diver Shootout at Lembeh Strait, Jennifer Hayes, David Doubilet, Ned Deloach, Rod Klein and I were invited to be judges for the competition. On the day of judging, when an image of a very unique hairy frogfish was shown on the screen, the judges all stood up and left the room to look for the resort manager, who had to arrange a boat for all of us to go shoot the fish the next morning!
Only in Lembeh, where the Good remained good, the Bad usually beautiful, and the Ugly, absolutely adorable!
Behold, the underwater “rambutan” that sent the judges crazy! Hairy Frogfish (Antennarius striatus)
Making a run with its bag of gold… Carry Crab (Dorippe frascone) with Lagoon Jellyfish (Mastigias papua).
Orange Convict Goby (Priolepis vexilla), definitely a good guy with his charming blue facial stripes.
Our Western theme would be incomplete without an equine Pontoh’s Pygmy Seahorse (Hippocampus pontohi)!
The Good Cleaner Shrimp (Urocaridella antonbruunii), the Bad Tongue-Eating Louse (Cymothoa exigua),
and the not-Ugly-enough Saddleback anemonefish (Amphiprion polymnus).
