This species is usually small with a mottled red, blue or yellow colors. This sea star can reproduce asexually by casting off an arm which can grow into a new sea star. It can regenerate a new arm to be the same as the other remaining arms. It can be found in shallow water. It can be a suspension feeder but may also feed upon microscopic algae.
