This octopus is very well camouflaged around rubble areas. It is gray to brown and sometimes greenish; it displays a muted color and skin texture but occasionally shows dark and light banding on its arms. It can be found during the day but sometimes also on night dives. Size of arms is up to 30cm

Occurs on sandy and muddy habitats. It is recognized by its long arms - of which the third arm pair is the longest. It can sever the arms near the base as a decoy to predators.

This large ocellate octopus is the most commonly seen octopus on coral reefs. It’s active during the day. This species is recognized by the black false eye spot and red brown arm tips with regular rows of white spots. They feed on crabs and other crustaceans and fish.

Blue-ringed octopus are solitary animals, found on sandy or rubble areas. There are at least 2 different species of Blue-Ringed octopus found in Lembeh strait. Different species can be visually distinguished from one another by the diameter and frequency of blue rings and the body size. Blue rings only appear when the animal is agitated. The rings can change thickness and pulsate. They have a highly toxic bite. First aid for a blue ring bite is continuous mouth to mouth resuscitation. This species can be recognized by its tiny blue rings scattered over the body. It lives in temperate inshore water from intertidal areas. It can usually be found at rocky reef, rubble areas, or sea grass beds. They like to hide in shells, bottles, or even cans that make them feel safe. This octopus has a small body size - about 5 cm, but has a very dangerous toxin that can cause death. This is a very rare species.

This is an unusual octopus species, active only at night. It can be found on sandy and rubble areas, areas with a seaweed cover or on rocky and coral reefs. It has a reddish brown colour and when agitated, white star-like spots appear all over its body which is its only possible colour change. It is poorly known and quite rare. It can be found on sand, seaweed and rubble and is only active at night. The common name comes from the numerous small white spots that are scattered over the body and arms. It is also very fast-moving.

Can resemble the coconut octopus by shape but its coloration is different. Mototi's colour patterns include a pair of bright blue rings (ocelli) behind its head and a general orange colour when resting. Distinct brown and white stripes appear on its body when swimming. This species can have a similar body size to the blue ring octopus as a juvenile, but can grow to larger sizes as an adult up to 10 cm. It can be recognized by its two tiny blue rings on the side of the body. This octopus is also poisonous. If they feel disturbed they can change color to vertical dark brown lines and the base body color can be change to yellow or white. They are usually found in the rubble and sea grass beds. They like to hide in shells, bottles, or even cans that make them feel safe. This species is also rare to find.

Solitary, lives in burrows on sandy and muddy flats in shallow water. Rarely found outside its burrow, more often seen only with its eyes protruding from its sandy area. Very curious and will come out when approached by experienced dive guides, who know the mimic magic. It is active during the day. It displays a black or brown and white striped pattern when agitated. The stripes are not as clear as on the wonderpus. The mimic has V-shaped white markings on its body and high stalked eyes. These are two characteristics that distinguish this species from the wonderpus. It is known to mimic up to 17 different species, including the sea snake, flounder, lionfish, sting ray and feather star.

Solitary, usually buried in sand in shallow water. Usually observed during afternoons, when it forages for small fish and crustaceans. It can display a dramatic brown and white stripped pattern when agitated or hunting. Its striped pattern and stalked eyes make it an easily recognizable species. It is sometimes confused with the mimic octopus, but the Wonderpus is smaller, the color of its stripes is clearer and most importantly, it doesn’t acquire the shapes of other animals.

Found in shallow water in areas of sand, mud and rubble. It is active during the night. During the day it seeks shelter either by burrowing into the soft substrate or most commonly hiding inside empty bivalve sea shells, coconut shells or inside discharged glasses or tins. It typically has a dark colour pattern when exposed, contrasting with its snow-white suckers.
