Little is known of this species. Like other members of squid, this species has kidney shaped fins, a scatter of large white pigment cells and orange chromatophores. It remains buried during the day and shows up at night to hunt primarily crustacean prey. Occur in shallow waters. Closely related to the striped pyjama squid (Sepioloidea lineolata).

Smallest known species of all squids and cuttlefish. They have a special organ on their mantle that helps them attach to things like seagrass. Lays its eggs on the undersides of seagrasses. They feed on crustaceans including amphipods as large as themselves.

Found in shallow coastal waters. Usually found on sandy and rubble bottoms or half buried in the sand. The light organ contains a type of Vibrio bacteria that produces the luminescence. This same bacteria also causes bioluminescence in pinecone fish. It uses its triangular fins to bury itself into the substrate and its arms to cover itself with sand grains.

Can often be found in shallow reef habitas. Commonly seen in water column hovering close to reef. They can often be found in sandy and sea grass habitats or close by mooring lines on which they lays eggs. This curious species is often attracted to dive torches during night dives offering a perfect photo opportunity.
