This shark has a long, slender black and brown body with white banding. They are small, with a body size up to 90 cm. During the day they can be found hiding in rubble or other hiding places such as wood or sponges. It is solitary and found on the sandy bottom.

The body of this shark can be in shades of brown, black and grey, and they have a variable mixture of spots, stripes and bands. All fins have white tips. They live solitary in reefs or crevices. They have a slender and small body with a length up to 60cm. They are usually found at night.
