Stay in soft sandy bottom, usually buried with only eye from sand bottom as it lies in wait to prey. If it disturb it will shoot of a distance and bury at once. Size up to 65 cm.

Usually found laying on sand, rubble or coral. It swims only when disturbed. Lizard fish are ambush predators, perfectly blending to it surrounding by the colour pattern and their motionless behaviour.
