Birdwatching
North Sulawesi is home to a range of endemic bird species, including the Minahasa owl, red-bellied pitta, green imperial pigeons, ashy woodpeckers and the brilliant red-knobbed hornbill. You might catch a glimpse of sandpipers, heron, black-napped terns, and frigate birds, or one of the three different kingfisher species known to live in the forest. Set out before the dawn and you’ll arrive at Tangkoko National Park just in time for sunrise, when many of these incredible creatures are beginning their day.
